The Testosterone, Total test helps to detect levels of testosterone in the blood. It helps to diagnose erectile dysfunction and infertility in males. In females, this test helps to diagnose the cause of virilization (masculine physical features), hirsutism (excess of body hair), infertility, and polycystic ovary syndrome. This test helps to determine the cause of early or delayed puberty or the cause of genitalia that are not clear if they are male or female in children. To take the blood sample, a tourniquet (elastic) band is placed tightly on the upper arm. The patient is asked to form a fist.
