रेमेटोइड आर्थराइटिस एक विकार है जिसमें जोड़ों में मुख्य रूप से अविरल सूजन होता है। इस विकार से त्वचा, आंखें, फेफड़े, रक्त धमनियाँ और ह्रदय जैसे अन्य शरीर के प्रणालियाँ भी प्रभावित होती हैं।

रूमेटॉइड आर्थराइटिस जब होता है जब शरीर की प्रतिरक्षा कोशिकाएँ जोड़ों को घेरने वाली मेम्ब्रेन (सिनोवियम) की पहचान नहीं करती हैं। प्रतिरक्षा कोशिकाएँ सिनोवियम पर हमला करती हैं जिससे जोड़ों में सूजन होती है जो आगे बढ़कर उस जोड़ों की कॉर्टिलेज और हड्डी की नष्टि कर सकती है।

रूमेटॉइड आर्थराइटिस के लक्षण में शामिल हैं: जोड़ों में दर्द, गरम या सूजन; जोड़ों में सुजन विशेषकर सुबहों में; थकान, बुखार और भूख की कमी।
