This test is used to measure the amount of insulin present in the blood after a 10-12 hr fasting period. Insulin is responsible for uptake of glucose by the cells from the blood stream, for production and storage of energy. Primarily used to check insulin levels, this test helps in the diagnosis of diabetes and insulin resistance.
