Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
How is the blood sample taken?
To take the blood sample, a tourniquet (elastic) band is placed tightly on the upper arm. The patient is asked to make a fist. This helps in the buildup of blood filling the veins and it becomes easy to collect the blood. The skin is cleaned before inserting the needle in the vein in order to prevent bacteria from entering. The needle is then inserted into the vein in the arm and the blood sample is collected in the vacutainer.
What is arthritis?
Inflammation of joints is referred to as arthritis. This condition can affect one or multiple joints. There are two most common form of arthritis that includes osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
What are the symptoms of arthritis?
The symptoms of arthritis include lasting joint pain, swelling in joints, stiffness in joints, tenderness or pain when touching a joint, problems while movement, and warmth and redness in the joint. Older citizens are at a greater risk for arthritis due to the weakening of bones.
What is Rheumatoid arthritis?
Rheumatoid arthritis is a disorder in which there is mainly chronic inflammation of the joints. Other body systems such as skin, eyes, lungs, blood vessels, and heart are also affected by this disorder.
What causes rheumatoid arthritis?
Rheumatoid arthritis occurs when the bodys immune cells fail to recognize the lining of membranes surrounding the joints (synovium) as itself. The immune cells attack the synovium resulting in inflammation of the joints which further can result in the destruction of cartilage and bone of that joint.
What is osteoarthritis?
Osteoarthritis is commonly found in older people. It starts when cartilage begins to become old, torn and starts to wear away. The cartilage is responsible for preventing friction between the joints as it normally pads up the joints. When the cartilage is damaged, the joints rub against each other causing friction which results in stiffness, and pain.
