T4. This is because T4 is converted into another thyroid hormone called T3 (triiodothyronine), free T4 is the more important hormone to measure.
Free T3 assays are often unreliable and not routinely used to assess thyroid function.
Due to thyroid inflammation or thyroid disease there could be a possibility of high TSH levels but normal T3 and T4.
